Canon update + permissions post
Jun. 5th, 2012 10:54 amAs of the evening of June 9th, Ro will return to Sacrosanct canon-updated to the end of the series finale, "The Hologram Man." She's also coming back with a portable holo-emitter on her wrist, designed by Dr. Marcus Edmond, the same guy who created Zeta's holo-emitter.
Essentially, she can scan a person's image with it and convincingly project that appearance around herself. It's very convincing, imitating shadows and details down to the wind seemingly blowing hair and clothes consistent with the weather. (Not sure if it can simulate tactile contact like Zeta's. I need to canon review.) It's intuitive enough that Ro figures out how to use it to imitate a terrorist henchman in a few minutes. It probably won't fool infrared scanning, et cetera, but it's a hell of an illusion. In canon, it has been able to fool a retinal scanner. Not sure if I'm actually going to allow that unless someone wants me to.
In canon, it also somehow lets her imitate the person's voice. As this has never made sense to me (Zeta can do that, but he's a robot and can imitate voices without a holo-emitter) it will not let her do that on Sacrosanct. She's going to have to do it herself, and while she's actually really good at imitating accents, it's not going to be perfect.
However, the image alone is enough for a permissions post. If you think it might come up, please comment to this post with the following:
Character name:
Can Ro scan in and imitate your character's appearance?
If so, should your character's image get accidentally deleted after she uses it, or can it remain in memory?
Here, have a textarea:
NOTE: Once your character's appearance is scanned in, anyone who gets their hands on the holo-emitter can use it. Ro will eventually figure out how to delete images from the thing, but until then I'm leaving the option open for her to accidentally delete an image if you don't want your character's image on there for long.
Images currently stored in the holo-emitter:
1) Dr. Selig (I don't think Edmonds ever deleted it)
2) Curtis (the big henchman she hit over the head)
3) Herself in a white biohazard suit

Jan. 24th, 2010 08:48 pmSo I disappeared for a while there with no warning. Sorry about that. Stuff happened.
Hopefully, the hiatus is over. I'm going to try to throw Ro back in to see if I can't get back into the groove of playing.
Sorry in advance for glacial slowness and/or thread-dropping. Part of the stuff that happened has made me realize that I need to get enough sleep no matter what. :)

more excuses
Dec. 16th, 2009 09:12 pmOkay, due to certain people in Verizon's sales department who need to learn the difference between numeric digits and why screwing up someone's account info is BAD...
...Hiatus is going to be extended several more days or until I have a reliable high-speed Internet connection again.
Sorry, all. Didn't want to spam the ooc comm with my whining. D:

Updated availability & schedule
Nov. 26th, 2009 09:28 amOkay, so.
To make a long story short: Couple of months ago, my work network completely blocked LiveJournal. Not that this was a huge surprise since they blocked Facebook a few months before that, but given I've been pulling 9-hour days, that put a considerable dent in my ability to play. (It has also made it impossible for me to do CFUW again EVER. Sob.)
Timezone: EST (November-March it's GMT -5, rest of the year it's GMT -4)
Weekdays: ffff work. (I can be reached at Gmail if you need anything. All chat and LJ are blocked, but Gmail's available.)
Weeknights: 7 pm to 10 pm is usually my window of free time in the evening. I need to be off the computer by 11 pm EST. I usually need to be reminded of this fact.
Weekends: Spotty although I tend to hang out around the house like a bum all morning. D&D is every other Saturday evening. AM is when I'm more likely to be on, although late nights work too.
Speaking of which, considering today's Thanksgiving, I need to get moving already...

drop meme for real
Jul. 31st, 2009 09:40 pmOkay, now that I'm a little less sore and realize my problem is with apping, not playing... let's try this again.
Basically - I have no intention of dropping either, but if I had to I wouldn't be miserable.
( Drop meme. For real this time. )
ME
So my main problems are:
1) Trying to spend more time than I should in one sitting on threads
2) Sucking at apping
For the first, I am just going to have to stop trying to spend two hours in one sitting with RP. I'm not comfortable that way and just can't keep the voice going for that long. Really, I just spend half the time trying to tag back and trying to ignore the fact that the attention span has passed and I need to come back. So I'll just have to pick up threads at intervals instead of prolonged playing for hours. The latter doesn't work.
As for sucking at apping: I've finally come to realize that's okay. If I get an idea for an app sometime, I'll write it down, and maybe when an app round comes up I'll have a draft ready in time. Because every time I decide "okay, I'm gonna app X character for THIS round dammit" something always happens or I stress myself out. If I keep working around deadlines I'll continue to suck at it. Maybe I'll find a character that takes over my brainspace so much that pounding out an app is nothing. Or maybe I'll just find myself with a draft around apping time.
Not as sore now, by the way. Just need to pick up and get organized for possible family antics tomorrow.

ugh ugh ugh
Jun. 30th, 2009 11:41 pmSooo I decided this week to get my routine back together and try to actually do the chores to get this place back in semi-habitable order.
Problem is, the state the house is in, chores + making dinner + cleaning up after dinner = looking up and wondering when the hell did it become 10 pm.
Sorry for the sudden disappearance, but I'll pick up tags in a day or two. After I stayed up so late on Sunday night that I slept through my alarms and got into work late Monday, I decided I needed to get my schedule back on track. Which means staying up late to tag is out for a bit.
Will pick up Remy and Ro's tags in a day or two. I'M SORRY RIKU ♥

HI GUYS please to be disregarding most of my last post. Some people may notice that I've been MIA the past 2 days.
Why? Well, work is crazy, true, but... I got The World Ends With You in the mail this past weekend.
You see where this is going.
I think they introduced the Shutdown PP idea strictly to give addicted players incentive to PUT THE GAME DOWN AND SLEEP.
Sooo the hiatus is extended a few days. As is re-aging Ro. I WILL BE BACK but I may just have to ask a friend to confiscate my DS till I've gotten the house straightened up. Sorry about this!

Officially back but slooowly coming off hiatus because the house is a mess.
Since I de-aged Ro and then went on hiatus, in game time I'm only going to have it last another few days. Expect a lot of backdated posts with tiny!Ro since I've been wanting to do this for a while now. (Psst, Ducky, if you see this, let me know, I still wanna do the arts and crafts post.)

here comes the little bulldozer
Jun. 4th, 2009 10:28 pm"You're still the same Little Bulldozer."
"Little what?"
"Whenever you wanted something, you just plowed through whatever was in your way. You never gave up til you got what you wanted. It was Grandpa's nickname for you."
--Casey and Ro, "On the Wire"
Guess what, I'm finally de-aging Ro. After talking about doing this for months, I finally made icons and am going to get around to posting sometime this coming week before I leave. I'm going to de-age her to before she was in foster care, when she still lived with her grandparents and brother and actually wasn't immediately suspicious of the human race.
Canon doesn't give me much to go on - in fact, the quote above is the majority of my guidelines for playing bitty!Ro. So I'm going to be relying on a lot of headcanon. I realize five years old is pushing the timelines a bit, but I saw caps of Elle Fanning and went "YES. WANT." Basically, her characterization's going to be based on the quote. It's still Ro. Exceptfive six years old, and sans the cynicism. And louder.
Why am I doing this? Aside from the cute factor, I kind of want to try to play Ro before she started holding people at arm's length and became so cynical. Zeta's actually gotten her to let her guard down a lot more in canon, but... what the hell, this could be fun. Also, Ro has been very careful not to give out her full name in camp - she's only introduced herself as "Ro," not even "Rosalie." This is pretty much going to shoot that effort all to hell. :)
ETA: Okay, fine, six years old. I can get away with that because I misread timelines. She's probably still a bit too articulate, but I refuse to write a lisp and am basing this totally off my niece and nephew both of whom are extreme chatterboxes.
